Composite Decks Recalled by Louisiana-Pacific; Decks Can Deteriorate and Break, Posing Fall Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Composite Decks
Units: About 48 million linear feet (decks vary in size)
Manufacturer: Louisiana-Pacific (LP) Corp., of Nashville, Tenn.
Hazard: The recalled decking can prematurely deteriorate and unexpectedly break. Consumers can fall through broken decking and suffer serious injuries.
Incidents/Injuries: LP has received 37 reports of composite decks breaking, resulting in 14 injuries, including a broken wrist, sprained ankle, minor lacerations and bruises.
Description: The recall includes outdoor deck board and railings sold under the brand names LP WeatherBest®, ABTCo., and Veranda®. They are composite products that look similar to natural wood and were sold in various colors including Tuscan Walnut/Chestnut, Driftwood Grey/Greystone, Pacific Cedar and Western Redwood. Veranda decking products were manufactured by multiple firms; only products manufactured by LP are included in this recall.
Sold at: The Home Depot (Veranda® brand) and building product dealers (LP WeatherBest® and ABTCo. brands) nationwide from January 2005 to August 2008 for between $1.50 and $2.25 per linear foot.
Manufactured in: United States
Remedy: Consumers with the recalled decking should immediately contact LP for a free inspection. If the decking is affected by premature deterioration, LP will arrange for a free replacement.

Browning and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Recall Knife Sheaths Due to Defect
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Skinner Knife Sheaths
Units: About 10,000
Distributor: Browning, of Morgan, Utah and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, of Missoula, Mont.
Hazard: The knife can cut through the sheath because there is no blade guard in the sheath. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recall involves the Browning and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation co-branded skinner knife sheath (model 322087). The sheath is black with the “Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation” logo stitched on the front. The packaging is black and yellow with “Browning” printed on the side and the model number printed above the UPC. No other Browning or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation products are included in this recall.
Sold to: The sheath and knife were given away as a promotional item for new membership in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation from November 2008 through April 2009.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the sheath immediately and discard it. Consumers with the recalled sheath will be notified directly and will be sent a new one free of charge.

Lumetique Recalls Botanika Candles Due to Fire Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: DayNa Decker 16 ounce Botanika Candles
Units: About 7,000
Manufacturer: Southern California Candle Co. Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.
Distributor: Lumetique Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.
Hazard: The glass can break during use, posing a fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received ten reports of the glass breaking during use, two of which resulted in fires causing property damage to household items and carpet. One consumer reported a cut on her foot when the glass broke and another consumer reported a wax burn from blowing out the candle.
Description: The recalled candles were sold under the DayNa Decker “Botanika” brand in 16 ounce green glass vessels, 4 inches wide by 5 inches high. Botanika candles in the smaller 3 ounce and 6 ounce sizes are not included in the recall. The words “DayNa Decker” and “Bacara,” “Bardou,” “Clementine,” “Indigo,” “Leila,” “Manzanita,” “Sierra,” “Violetta,” “Yasmin” or “Zelia” appear on the bottom of the glass vessel.
Sold by: Resorts, spas, gift shops and specialty stores nationwide from March 2008 through April 2009 for about $76.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the candle and contact Lumetique to receive a full credit toward the purchase of DayNa Decker brand products.

Hazard: The recalled timers can have a faulty ground connection, posing a shock hazard to consumers.

Description: The recalled Intermatic DT17 heavy-duty digital timers are lamp and appliance timers. They were packaged as the “DT17C Heavy Duty Digital Timer” and the “DT17C8 Heavy Duty Digital Timer.” The timer is white-colored and measures 3 3/8” tall x 2 5/8” wide x 1 5/8” deep. Only products with date codes of “40Z” through “52Z” or date codes ending in “A,” “B” or “C” are included in the recall. The brand name “Intermatic” is molded on the front of the timer, and the model number (“DT17”) and date code are printed on the back of the timer.
Sold at: Retailers and electrical distributors nationwide from September 2005 through December 2008 for between $15 and $25.

Hazard: An electrical component in certain model dishwashers can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: BSH Home Appliances has received 51 reports of incidents, including 30 reports of fires resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Description: This recall involves certain Bosch® and Siemens® dishwashers manufactured from May 1999 through July 2005. The brand name is printed on the dishwasher’s front control panel. Model and serials numbers are located inside the dishwasher door panel on the upper right side.

The model number and product code are printed on the cookware’s packaging. The non-stick cookware has red, green, black, blue or purple exteriors, black handles, glass lids and came with spoons, spatulas and ladles.

Serta International Recalls Mattresses Due to Violation of Federal Mattress Flammability Standard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Serta Zipper-Covered Foam Core Mattresses
Units: About 6,100
Manufacturer: Serta International Mattress Co., of Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Hazard: The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal open flame standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recalled mattresses have a zipper cover over a foam core. The mattresses were sold in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes. They were manufactured between November 30, 2007 and May 20, 2008. The mattress name, date of manufacture, model, and serial numbers are located on label attached to the mattress. Only specific serial numbers are included in the recall. The recalled mattresses are listed in the chart below.
