Fujifilm Recalls Battery Chargers Due to Shock Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: BC-50 Battery Chargers

Units: About 5,300

Importer: Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc., of Valhalla, N.Y.

Hazard: The plastic portion of the unit’s power plug can crack or detach, posing an electrical shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled BC-50 battery chargers were included with the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd digital cameras and are identified by the production lot codes “WCAA” and “WCAB”, which can be located on the back of the battery charger unit, in the lower, right-hand corner. The battery chargers were also sold separately as an optional accessory for the FinePix F100fd and F50fd digital cameras and have production lot codes of “WBAD” and “WFBA”. Battery chargers packaged with the Fujifilm Finepix F50d digital cameras are not included in the recall.

Sold at: Camera and photo supply retailers nationwide from March 2008 through September 2008 for about $60.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled battery chargers immediately and contact the firm for a free replacement charger.

Portable Generators Recalled by General Power Products Due to Fire Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Portable Generators

Units: About 13,000

Importer: General Power Products LLC, of Loveland, Ohio

Hazard: The generator’s fuel valve can be damaged by the cover plate during shipment and cause a fuel leak and fuel spillage during use, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: General Power Products has received 14 reports of damaged fuel valves. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall includes the General Power Products 6000 Watt portable generator and the Poulan Pro 6000 Watt portable generator with serial numbers 060400483 through 060600725. The serial number is stamped on the engine block which is located on the front of the engine below the generator’s control panel. “General Power Products” and “6000 Generator” are printed on the side of the General Power Products generator. “Poulan Pro” and “6000 watts” are printed on the side of the Poulan Pro generator.

Sold at: Hardware and home improvement stores primarily located in Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas from June 2008 through September 2008 for between $600 and $800.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the generators and contact General Power Products to determine if the generator’s fuel valve is damaged and, if it is, to receive a free repair kit and instructions.

Wal-Mart Recalls General Electric Toasters Due to Fire and Shock Hazards

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: General Electric Toasters

Units: About 210,000

Importer: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark.

Hazard: An electrical short circuit can occur between the heating element and the bread cage, posing a fire and electrical shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Wal-Mart has received 140 reports of fires or sparks coming from the toasters or the toasters tripping the circuit breaker in consumers� homes. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled toasters have a chrome steel body, a black plastic base and controls with either two or four openings in the top. The GE logo is located on the front of the toasters just above the controls. Model numbers 169115 and 169116 are included in this recall. The model number is printed on the bottom of the toasters.

Gotham Lighting Recalls Compact Fluorescent Recessed Ceiling Lights; Can Fail to Work in an Emergency

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Products: Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights (Recessed Ceiling Lights)

Units: About 30,000

Manufacturer: Gotham Lighting, of Conyers, Ga.

Hazard: The relay on the backup battery of the lights could be programmed incorrectly and prevent the lights from functioning in an emergency.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: Only Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights sold with the optional backup battery pack are included in the recall. The lights are recessed ceiling lights that were manufactured between November 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.

Sold by: Electrical distributors and sales representatives nationwide from November 2007 through July 2008 for between $250 and $350.

Remedy: Consumers should inspect the fixtures immediately and contact Gotham Lighting to receive a repair for the light fixture.

Headlamps Recalled

Safety Alert: Petzl America Warns of Burn Hazard from Headlamps; Product Should Only Be Used with Non-Rechargeable Batteries

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a safety alert for the following consumer products. Consumers should immediately stop using rechargable batteries with any of the products listed below.

Name of Product: “MYO” and “MYO Belt” Headlamps

Units: About 322,000

Distributor: Petzl America, of Clearfield, Utah

Manufacturer: Petzl S.A., of Crolles, France

Hazard: If the headlamp is used with rechargeable batteries, the cable connecting the battery pack to the lamp can spark, melt, or catch fire. This poses a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Petzl has received 13 reports of sparking and/or melting, with 2 reports of flames. One consumer received a minor burn to the hand, and another experienced singed hair.

Description: This safety alert involves the “MYO” and “MYO Belt” headlamps with name and model numbers listed below. The “MYO” headlamps have a battery pack attached to the headband. The “MYO Belt” headlamps have a remote battery pack attached to the headlamp via a long electric cable.

Hanashop Recalls Counterfeit Power Cords Due to Fire and Shock Hazard; Sold Exclusively on eBay

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Power Cords

Units: About 180

Distributor: DCI LLC, d/b/a Hanashop, of Olive Branch, Miss.

Hazard: The power cord wires are significantly undersized and allow incorrect insertion of the power plug, posing a risk of fire and/or shock to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall involves 2-Ft., three outlet power cords. The power cord is orange in color and packaged in a counterfeit yellow and green cardboard sleeve. The packaging indicates the power cord is a “12 Gauge Extra Heavy Duty” type. Model number T-4145 is printed in front and back of the packaging, which is indicated in the picture below.

Sold by: ebay.com nationwide from November 2006 through April 2008 for between $2 and $5.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power cords and contact the firm for a full refund.

Wolf Appliance Recalls Gas Ranges Due to Burn Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Wolf Appliance Gas Ranges

Units: About 24,000

Manufacturer: Wolf Appliance Inc., of Madison, Wis.

Hazard: Delayed ignition of gas in the 18-inch oven can cause a flash of flames to be projected at a consumer when the range door is opened, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Wolf has received 97 reports of units experiencing delayed ignition, including 15 minor burns. There have been no reports of fires or property damage.

Description: This recall involves the following Wolf Appliance 48-Inch gas ranges with model numbers: P48, PS48 and R48. The gas ranges are stainless steel with a double oven. A “Wolf” appliance logo is on the front of the larger oven door.

Sold at: Home builders and appliance stores nationwide from January 1998 through June 2008 for between $5,000 and $9,000.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled gas range 18-inch oven and contact the manufacturer to schedule a free, in-home repair. The large oven and all cooktop burners are not affected and may be used.

Cordless Screwdrivers Recalled by Menards Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: MasterForce 3.6-volt Cordless Screwdrivers

Units: About 42,000

Importer: Menards, of Eau Claire, Wisc.

Manufacturer: Great Star Industry Co., of China

Hazard: The battery can overheat and ignite during charging, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. There is no protective device on the lithium battery to prevent overheating.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm and CPSC have received three reports of fires. One consumer suffered burns to the hand, and another experienced temporary hearing loss.

Description: The recalled cordless screwdrivers are green and gray in color. “MASTERFORCE” is printed on the top of the tool. “LITHIUM-ION TECHNOLOGY” and “241-0717” are printed on the handle.

Sold at: Menards stores from April 2007 through May 2008 for about $30.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the screwdrivers and return them to any Menards store for a free replacement or refund.

GIA Instruments Recalls Polariscopes Due to Shock Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC.

Name of Product: Illuminator Polariscopes 415000 and 415

Units: About 8,000

Manufacturer: GIA Instruments, of Carlsbad, Calif.

Hazard: The polariscopes can have a ground wire missing, posing a risk of electrical shock to the user.

Incidents/Injuries: GIA has received four reports of consumers experiencing minor electric shock.

Description: The recalled polariscopes are white in color with model number 415000 or 415 printed on the underside of the instrument. A polariscope is an instrument used by gemologists to assist in gem identification.

Sold by: GIA schools, GIA’s Web site, product catalogs, distributors and trade shows nationwide from January 1996 through June 2007 for between $255 and $340.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact GIA Instruments to schedule a free retrofit of the Polariscope with a ground wire. GIA is notifying all consumers directly.

Indoor Lighting Fixtures Recalled by Lithonia Lighting Due to Impact Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Indoor Lighting Fixtures

Units: About 1,400

Manufacturer/Distributor: Lithonia Lighting, of Conyers, Ga.

Hazard: The glass reflector can separate from the fixture and fall, posing a risk of injury to consumers below the fixture.

Incidents/Injuries: There has been one report of a glass reflector falling. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves the Hi-Bay Indoor High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Fixtures, model numbers PG16A and PG21A. The fixture is intended for high-mounting heights (at least 20 feet above floor level) and is used in retail, warehouse and heavy manufacturing locations. The fixture’s housing is made of die-cast aluminum.

Sold by: Electrical distributors and sales representatives nationwide from January 2007 through May 2008 for between $280 and $350.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should inspect the fixtures immediately and take down any units with loose glass. Consumers should contact Lithonia Lighting to arrange for a free replacement.
